Cocktail Week Events This Weekend, Sept. 24-25

​The final two days of cocktail week are jam-packed, with awards, seminars, and parties. Once it's done, we're doing a cleanse, eating some vegetables, and getting our livers back in shape for in time for WhiskyFest on October 7th.

Historic North Beach Bar Stroll with Dominic Venegas and Jackie Patterson
Where: Buena Vista Cafe, 2765 Hyde (at Beach)
When: Sat., Sept. 24, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Cost: $45 regular; $55 at the door

The rundown: Start your Saturday with an Irish Coffee at the iconic Buena Vista, then continue through North Beach learning the history of the area with Dominic Venegas and Jackie Patterson through cocktails along the way.


The Legends Awards
Where: Sir Francis Drake Ballroom, 450 Powell (at Sutter)
When: Sat., Sept. 24, 6:30 - 10 p.m.; after-party in the Starlight Room, 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Cost: $175 regular; $99 through Thrillist until noon on Saturday

The rundown: A celebration of the folks in the local spirits industry with a three-course meal by Chef Jennifer Biesty paired with cocktails prepared tableside by some of the Bay Area's best. An awards ceremony honoring them will follow through dinner.

How to Throw a Brunch Cocktail Party
Where: The Boothby Center, 1161 Mission (at 8th)
When: Sat., Sept. 24, Noon - 2 p.m.
Cost: $25 in advance; $35 at the door

The rundown: Learn the basics of putting together a cocktail brunch that will leave you with enough time to mingle and enjoy a few Bloody Marys yourself.


Not So Simple: the Art of Crafting Perfect Syrups and Other Cocktail Ingredients
Where: The Boothby Center, 1161 Mission (at 8th)
When: Sat., Sept. 24, 3 - 5 p.m.
Cost: $25 in advance; $35 at the door

The rundown: It may be called 'simple syrup,' but making great syrups requires a little more than mixing water and sugar. Jennifer Colliau of Small Hand Foods will show you how to get the best out of fruit and spice syrups and shrubs.

History of Cocktail Books with John Burton
Where: The Boothby Center, 1161 Mission (at 8th)
When: Sun., Sept. 25, Noon - 2 p.m.
Cost: $25 in advance; $35 at the door

The rundown: Join John Burton for a discussion and exploration of the history of cocktail books and get a chance to see his massive collection of pre-prohibition books and cocktail memorabilia.


Bartending by the Bay: Historical Tale through San Francisco's Saloon and Cocktail History with John Burton
Where: The Boothby Center, 1161 Mission (at 8th)
When: Sun., Sept. 25, 3 - 5 p.m.
Cost: $25 in advance; $35 at the door

The rundown: A 50-year bartending veteran in the Bay Area, John Burton explores the bar and city's history with photos, memorabilia, and pisco cocktails.

Belvedere Bloody Mary Brunch
Where: Skool Restaurant, 1725 Alameda (at Berry)
When: Sun., Sept. 25, 11:30 a.m.
Cost: $60 per person

The rundown: A morning of recovery from the week isn't complete without a little hair of the dog in Bloody Mary form with some of the finest seafood from Skool chef Moto Nagano.
