The rundown: Most contests like to measure attributes like wits, might, courage, or speed, but San Francisco-based artist Chris Sollars along with Comstock Saloon are hosting an usual competition to find a hirsute hero to set the standard for facial hair.
Whiskey & Waxing is described as an event "celebrating local hairy talent on the old Barbary Coast." Winning requires not only facial hair form, but also the ability to sip whiskey or tea. The gauntlet has been thrown!
The finale of a two-part series that kicked off at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts last month with beard and mustache sculpting (click here for a video recap), the event this Monday promises to be a hoot. Judges--yours truly included--will award champions in both beard and mustache categories.
A live barbershop quartet will perform and $5 drinks will flow, including cocktails from San Francisco bartender William Boothby's 1907 book "The World's Drinks and How to Mix Them," like a Manhattan finished off with sparkling wine. Prizes include bottles of Bourbon and other whiskies, VIP tours of Anchor Brewery and admission to Whiskyfest San Francisco (Oct. 7).
Remember: "It's not the size of your sweep, but the shape of your broom!"
