New Vesta Flatbread Truck Hits the Streets

Jenya Chernoff, Traci Prendergast and Aron Ford hosted a private launch of their Vesta Flatbread food truck at Oakland's Linden Street Brewery last night. Attendees included friends, family, and Kickstarter backers. The former Arizmendi bakers raised over $6000 through their Kickstarter fundraising platform, enabling them to take their farmers' market stand on the road.

Confusingly, though Vesta is the Roman virgin goddess of hearth, home and family, they named their biodiesel-powered truck Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture. Ceres is equipped with a brick oven and rotisserie spit. Everything from the bread to beet slaw is made in the mobile kitchen with locally sourced, high-quality ingredients.

They had a great turnout, so great that most of the Mediterranean-style sandwiches had been eaten by the time SFoodie arrived. We did get to try a flavorful vegetarian sandwich. One thing for sure: they know how to bake. The bread has the perfect combination of softness and chewiness. They also make a mean lemonade.
