New Places to Grab a Drink; Ice Cream and Cake; and Things in Threes
The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.
Drinks all around! There's a lot of bar news today. First, Grub Street reports that Anthony Bourdain will not be making an appearance at Zeitgeist on Aug. 12 after all. There will still be a film crew on hand, and Grub suspects Bourdain will show up elsewhere in S.F. Keep all eyes peeled.
The team behind the Rickhouse and Bourbon & Branch, is opening another bar, Edition. This one will be underground. Grub Street reports the bar is slated for the space under the Hearst Building's T-Mobile store on Market (at Third St.), and the team will keep the focus on spirits and cocktails. But don't plan on grabbing a drink there until late 2012.
And near the predictably unstable mid-Market stretch, Grub Street shares Manny Alferez and Chris Smith (of the shuttered Triple Crown) and Tadd Cortell (cofounding partner of shuttered CAV Wine Bar) have taken over the space that housed the Room Ultra Lounge (101 Sixth St. at Mission). No word yet on the concept for the space or a projected opening date.
Who doesn't love cake and ice cream? Inside Scoop reports Citizen Cake is taking on a slightly altered name, Elizabeth Falkner's Citizen Cake, Ice Cream Parlor & Eats, and incorporating less-serious eats like liquid nitrogen ice cream and concoctions like beer floats and the Grilled Sourdough Sundae.
Good things come in threes: Pica Pica Maize Kitchen will open its third location in the Castro. Inside Scoop reports this second city location (the other location is in Napa) will appear at 3970 17th St. (at Market) in early September. Oddly enough, owner Adriana López Vermut is also pregnant with her third child.
And a quick note from Bernal Heights: Bernalwood shares the story of the Bernal Supper Club, a trio of friends whose dinners started as a weekly get-together will now be popping up at the Corner every Monday during August.
