Win Barbecue and Baseball Tickets in Our Haiku Contest
We've got three $48 tickets to the Bay Area BBQ Championship on Saturday, July 16, and we're going to give them away!
The 'cue will be cookin' at the Oakland Coliseum before a doubleheader between the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels of Disneyland. The lucky winner gets three passes for the barbecue AND three tickets to both games.
Considering the way the A's have played lately, and that the Angels have won 14 of 17, we asked if the winner MUST attend the games. Good news: You can leave at any time, but presumably not before using your five food/drink tickets each.
With apologies to Kurt Suzuki, the real stars will be the 32 barbecue teams, hailing from all over the state. We'd tell you our favorites, but then what would be the point of the competition?
There will be live music from Oakland native and 2004 American Idol 4th-place finisher La Toya London.
"How do I win?" you ask.
Haiku.
Leave a haiku about the event in the comments. We will read them and engage a team of literary experts read them again after having a cocktail, and then pick a winner.
Your haiku may refer to the A's, the barbecue, or both.
Like this:
Oakland Athletics
cannot hit, but barbecue
is always a hit
We'll judge on creativity, seasonal references, accuracy, poignancy, humor, and whatever else seems appropriate. But if you don't have the five-seven-five syllable pattern, you're going to have to pay to see the games.
More event details are here. The haiku deadline is midnight on Wednesday, July 13. On Thursday, July 14, we'll announce the winner.
We would say "Good luck"
but it's a contest of skill
So please do your best
