If you were in Saigon Ho Chi Minh City any time until about a decade ago, chances are you got food delivered by bicycle. The Vietnamese pop-up Rice Paper Scissors will bring Saigon nostalgia to the Lower Haight and Fillmore every Thursday night, starting this week.

Rice Paper Scissors is a collaboration between Katie Kwan of Kitchen SideCar and Valerie Luu of Little Knock. They'll pop up in Mojo Bicycle Cafe each Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.

They plan to offer a simple rotating menu of "Vietnamese comfort food" like banh mi and bar snacks. This week's menu includes grilled pork jerky, pork belly banh mi with housemade chicken pate, and breakfast banh mi with fried eggs. The complete menu is here.

What really makes this pop-up special is the free bicycle delivery option to the Panhandle, NOPA, the Western Addition, and the Lower Haight; it adds that frisson of realism. Just imagine how many banh mi Marlon Brando would have ordered -- no, don't do that. But you do have to order a $10 minimum. Otherwise, get on your own bike and ride in there, and maybe get your gears looked at while you're eating.
