The rundown: Be it free-flowing forms of espresso and foam, or detailed depictions of animals, scenery, and faces, all latte drinkers have (at least once) been captivated by the frothy artworks atop their coffee cups.
Usually, caffeine addicts are the only ones who see the minimasterpieces before they disappear into the swirl of swivel sticks and sugar. But on Thursday, San Francisco baristas will congregate at Dolores Park Cafe for a latte art contest, where they'll create their best foam designs for the masses.
To the backdrop of jazz band Stupid Man Suit, baristas will froth to win prizes for the temporary, edible artworks. For spectators, there will be beer ($3), wine ($5), and the cafe menu to nosh while watching the artists create.
