Hookahs Go Out, Chef Changes, and Breaking a Curse

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco restaurant scene.

All S.F. hookah flames are set to be extinguished, so if you want to get in a little more of that shisha, better do it soon. The Feast shares, via Inside Scoop, Kan Zaman and Marrakech Moroccan Restaurant are set to go in front of the Public Health Department next week, where all signs point to them having to put the kibosh on hookah use.

The site of chefs Evan and Sarah Rich's pop-ups, Radius, now has a new executive chef. Inside Scoop reports Chris Geremia has moved into the spot, replacing Matt Kerley, who moved to Wisconsin for family reasons. Geremia states there will be only a few tweaks to the menu he helped create with Kerley in February.

Here's hoping this one sticks! Grub Street reports Izakaya Yuzuki will be moving into the former "cursed" Ebb & Flow (and Craig's Place) space across from Tartine. Grub Street expects an opening at least three months away as first-time restaurant owner Yuko Hayashi awaits a liquor license.

Also from Grub Street, Sightglass Coffee Bar & Roastery is set to open its new and improved self next Wednesday (Seventh St. at Folsom).

Eater SF gives word that the Financial District's La Fusion is set to open at 475 Pine in the next couple of weeks. The restaurant from Mexico City Cordon Bleu graduate Javier Madero will serve an assortment of pan-Latin small plates, $9 to $11, and feature Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken.

And earlier this week, Eater SF gives the details on Southpaw BBQ, slated for opening this October in the former Hong Kong Express Café. The "put a little South in your mouth" eatery from Southerners Elizabeth Wells and chef David King (whose barbecue travels have brought him to Bangkok and Copenhagen) will focus on Memphis-style barbecue and an accompanying cocktail menu.
