The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

Self-serve beer at a bar? That's right. Haighteration gives the first look at Mad Dog in the Fog's new self-serve tap table. With two built-in taps, the "TableTender," which Mad Dog says is the first of its kind, charges by the ounce. There's a meter for the beer revelers and waitstaff to monitor the amount tapped, with a two-drink minimum for each person and a required eight or more in the party to reserve the table.

Earlier, we mentioned Dosa on Valencia closed for maintenance, and when it reopened it would debut its new cocktail menu. Well, the time has come, and Grub Street reports Dosa soft-opens tonight. Look for a cocktail menu reflective of its sister restaurant on Fillmore as well as the addition of some new food items.

The Tender reports a new restaurant, working name Halal Grill, hopes to open in about two weeks. From the butcher at Salama Halal, the meat shop around the corner from the Jones (at Geary) space, Halal Grill will serve an assortment of grilled meats, sans pork (of course). The blog remains pessimistic about the restaurant's ability to jump through the permit hoops in time for a mid-July opening, but here's hoping it does!
