Farm Together Now: Portraits of a New Food Movement

Where: The Commonwealth Club's Gold Room, 595 Market (at Second St.)

When: Thu., June 30. Networking reception starts at 5:30 p.m., program at 6.

Cost: $20 general, $8 Commonwealth Club members, $7 students with valid ID.

The rundown: The faces of the sustainable food movement reflect a spectrum of emotions, and were captured by San Francisco-based photographer Anne Hamersky in Farm Together Now, a book that famed food author Michael Pollan said was his favorite book of 2010. Hamersky, with authors Amy Franceshini and Daniel Tucker, traveled to 20 sustainable farms throughout the U.S., documenting their findings on food politics, agriculture, history, and other issues surrounding and directly influencing the sustainable food movement.

This Thursday, Hamersky will lead viewers through the book's images, sharing the stories behind the photos, which, Pollan says, "advances the whole conversation about sustainable agriculture and access." This slideshow will precede a book signing and conversation about the sustainable food movement with Rosie Branson, the program director of 18 Reasons.
