Bottle Cap Takes From Blue Plate, the Muppet Show Inspires, and Of Course, More Crepes

Categories: Buzz Machine

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

A couple chef updates. From Grub Street via Tablehopper, we've got the status of Bottle Cap, the restaurant slated to open in three weeks in the former Washington Square Bar & Grill space. Matt Sullivan, currently the chef at the Blue Plate, will come on as the chef de cuisine for chef-owner Dane Boryta's American restaurant. And also from Grub Street, chef Jeremy Fox will head over to Saison to fill in for a week (June 14-18). Boyfriend gets around.

Eater SF shares more about who will be taking over the old Bissap Baobab space: Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. If that sounds familiar, it's because owners Duncan Lay and Ben Bleiman (of Bullitt and Tonic) got the name from the Muppet Show's band. Clever. The bar is set to open July 1 with a similar menu to Bullitt and d├ęcor from the 1970's and 1980's. We can't wait to see how they do that.

Holy Crepe! Yesterday we mentioned a new crepe shop in the works, and today, another crepe shop is gone. We'll never fully see the end of crepe restaurants though, will we? Anyway, Eater reports that although Cow Hollow's Crepes A Go Go was just supposed to be "closed for renovations," but now their number is disconnected. Hmmm...

Eater SF also gives a sneak peak inside Tacko, set to open this Tuesday. The New England-taco shop hybrid restaurant from Nick Fasanella is part sleek, with an ever-popular communal table, and part old-school diner, with swivel counter-seats. Even with all that, it still manages to reminds us of the East Coast. Interesting.

Don't get ready for Charlie Hallowell's bar bites at Place Pigalle just yet. The Inside Scoop reports the chef-owner of Pizziolo's food menu for Place Pigalle isn't a done deal. Hallowell menu or not, Place Pigalle opens starting at noon next week.
