Pollo Campero Coming to S.F., Berkeley to Gain Artisan Butcher Shop, and Off the Grid
The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.
As SFoodie first reported in 2010, there was a rumor going around about the popular Guatemalan fried chicken chain, Pollo Campero, coming to San Francisco. Today, Inside Scoop confirms these rumors are true. The S.F. Planning Commission approved the first Northern California outpost of Pollo Campero in a 7-0 vote. Look for an opening in the Mission District (2740 Mission at 23rd St.) at the end of the year.
Also from Inside Scoop, via Berkeleyside, Chez Panisse chef Aaron Rocchino and his wife, Monica, will open an artisan butcher shop in the Gourmet Ghetto this summer. Interesting. Do you think Mark Zuckerberg will stop by?
The Feast reports that Off the Grid has rolled over the Bay Bridge and into Berkeley. Founder Matt Cohen, will continue to offer his truck rentals to those toying with the idea of starting their own restaurants or mobile eateries. The Feast also reports he has plans to expand Off the Grid to San Mateo and the South Bay.
