XYZ Ends Its Run, Ike's Place Begins a New One

The past 72 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

Local food media might be the only non-tourists to notice that restaurant XYZ in S.F.'s hotel W (181 Third St., at Howard) closed yesterday. Its replacement: Trace, due this summer. The pitch: locavorean emphasis (the name comes from "traceability," which refers to the ingredient-sourcing), complete with its own forager on the payroll, from XYZ's chef Paul Piscopo.

And will Ike's Place open today in its new permanent Castro spot, at 3489 16th St. (at Sanchez)? Owner Ike Shehadeh shut down the temporary Ike's @ Lime on Friday. And while buzz swirled that the new place might open Saturday, it looks like that didn't happen. Grub Street trolls Facebook and speculates the new Ike's might launch today. Frankly, SFoodie has no clue.
