Sunde White
Today's maple chocolate pecan pie.
A couple years ago, when Sunde White was tending bar at the Rite Spot, she began bringing pies into the bar to help build up business. Why pie? "I've always baked," she says. "My husband's pie crazy, and wanted pies all the time. So I started inventing weird flavors." Tangelo blueberry. Super lemon. Obama (pineapple cooked down with brown sugar and coconut, to celebrate his Hawaiian origins).

Pie Fridays earned a following, but then things got weird with the bar, so White went on what she calls a year-long "pie-atus." After friends and fans kept asking her to bring back Pie Fridays, five weeks ago, Sunde and her friend Britt began rolling a pie cart out to the corner of Valencia and 19th streets. She'll sell you a slice of the day's pies for $6, garnished with a pouf of vanilla-scented whipped cream.

Every week, White comes up with new flavors, then posts pictures of them on her website and e-mails them to her subscribers -- you can sign up for her e-mail blast or just follow her on Twitter. Occasionally an advertised flavor might not make it to the stand. SFoodie hasn't tried the pies yet, but the photos of her crust -- butter with a touch of margarine, FYI -- come out looking county-fair-championship worthy.

Tomorrow and Saturday, White will be selling blueberry, maple chocolate pecan, and lemon custard with graham-cracker crust. The pie cart holds only seven pies, so plan appropriately.

Pie Fridays: Corner of Valencia and 19th sts., Friday and Saturday, 5:30-11 p.m. (or until the pies run out).
