Cocktails 101: St. George Spirits

Where: Ferry Building Marketplace, CUESA Dacor Teaching Kitchen, 1 Ferry Building (at Embarcadero)

When: Sat., March 5, 2-4 p.m.

Cost: $50

The rundown: You might want to block out Saturday night for watching old episodes of The Jeffersons with an icepack on your forehead. Earlier that afternoon, powerhouse distiller Lance Winters of St. George Spirits in Alameda will team up with Spoonbar's Scott Beattie to show you how to shake, strain, and stir your way to mixo-mastery. In this first installment of CUESA's six-part Cocktails 101 series, the focus is on Winters, a legend for his MacGyver abilities to booz-ify anything (e.g., his own Christmas tree). Get these two warlocks into a classroom and the accumulated knowledge bank will far transcend your basic G&T. The spirits will all be St. George's primo products, so who can blame you if you sample heavy? Even the teachers are expecting some indulgence; the class comes with the stern warning, "It's very important to eat some food before the class!"
