Losses: Yesterday brought word of two deaths in the food world: Joseph Alioto, third-generation member of San Francisco's most recognizable restaurant family and front-of-house manager of Alioto's on the Wharf, and Karola Craib-Saekel, who wrote for the food section of the San Francisco Chronicle for several decades (according to this
profile by Stacy Finz, she began working at the Chron in 1955).
More sad news: Inside Scoop reports that Mission institution Ti Couz Crêperie (3108 16th St., at Valencia) is teetering on the verge of closure, though no door-barring date has been named. Owner Sylvie LeMer, who launched the place in 1992, is rumored to be looking for a buyer.

Bad news, vegans: Meanwhile, Vegansaurus reports on the imminent shuttering of vegan-friendly Maggie Mudd at 903 Cortland (at Gates) in Bernal. Actually, it's transitioning to an online-only cake shop. Last day you can visit the physical space: April 3.
Another loss of sorts: The Richmond District of SF checks up on Han Il Kwan (1802 Balboa, at 19th Ave.), which closed to make some upgrades following an ADA lawsuit. Richmond District's Sarah B. reckons compliance probably cost $35,000, apart from any fines Han Il Kwan might have had to pay. Which mom-and-pop restaurant is next? Sarah B. has an idea.
