Getting a Taste of PDX During SFBW
Bridgetown, aka Beervana, aka Portland has much to brag about when it comes to beer culture, but it doesn't yet have a Portland Beer Week (with stress on the "yet"). So some of Oregon's savvier breweries put some flowers in their hair late last week and headed south for SF Beer Week.

Tuesday, Feb. 15
Where: Pi Bar, 1432 Valencia (at 25th St.), 970-9670
When: 3-11:30 p.m.
What: This Bend-based brewery is holding off on their real assault on S.F. until the Craft Brewers Conference in March (for industry types) but are laying the foundation now with this pizza-forward tasting session that will feature, among others, two beers that keep us salivating all year long: The Dissident (a sour Flemish Brown ale) and The Abyss (an Imperial Stout with licorice and molasses).
Wednesday, Feb. 16
Where: Zeitgeist, 199 Valencia St. (at Duboce), 255-7505
When: 5-9 p.m.
What: Ninkasi founder and brewmaster Jamie Floyd will be pouring his Eugene-brewed beers at a few events this week, but this is the only one that's Ninkasi-centric. In addition to some stuff you'll find on tap year-round, check out the last of winter's Sleigh'r, as well as ReNEWale, designed to help us wipe the sleep from our eyes (and beer guts) to welcome spring.

When: 6-8 p.m.
What: Upright's mouthpiece and The New School blog's Ezra Johnson-Greenough will introduce this well regarded purveyor of Saisons and interesting Portlandish creations to the California market, with free samples of bottled products (Four, Five, Six, and Seven, each named for its original gravity) and rarified offerings on draft. City Beer's kegs include Special Herbs blended with Claussenii, a blend of a gin-barrel aged gruit or hopless beer, and Seven, aged in Pinot Noir barrels spiked with Brettanomyces. Beer Revolution's allotment includes barrel-aged Six with urfa chiles, which should appeal to fans of peppery red wine.
Friday, Feb. 18
Where: Otis, 25 Maiden (at Kearny)
When: 6-9 p.m.
What: Despite being 27 years old, BridgePort still finds itself introducing itself to imbibers at the craft beer table. New brews Café Negro (coffee porter) and Kingpin (double red ale) will help wash down small bites from Bi-Rite butcher and charcutier Morgan Maki. Thank God the FDA didn't ban coffee-infused beers, right?
Sunday, Feb. 20
Where: Where else? Rogue Ales Public House, 673 Union (at Powell), 362-7880
When: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
What: Rogue saw fit to put one of its satellite pubs here in North Beach, where you can find not only its house beers but house spirits, too. There are events all week, but don't miss the Beer and PJ brunch on the last day of Beer Week. Showing up in your pajamas is highly encouraged. Bacon and beermosas: The perfect remedy for a week's worth of overindulgence.
