OCD Sweets' Vegan Rosalia agave nectar caramel.
Napa's Obsessive Confection Disorder -- OCD Sweets for short -- has just landed in San Francisco. Its products are being exclusively (for the moment) carried at Other Avenues (3930 Judah, at 44th Ave.), and the organic co-op's produce has inspired several of the caramel flavors. Unusual varieties include butternut squash, candied yam, and salted agave-lime.

We think OCD is going to be a company to watch for innovating in the caramel category with its line of rich, vegan agave-nectar caramels, a lane wide open for OCD to experiment. We tried the Vegan Rosalia, which pops with notes of tangerine zest and hard pear cider, crowned with vegan dark chocolate, candied rose petal, and edible gold leaf. They're served in honking one-ounce portions that are pretty over the top, even for a seasoned sweet tooth, plus their agave sweetness is surprisingly richer even than honey caramels.
