Terry Theise: Reading Between the Wines

Where: Omnivore Books on Food, 3885a Cesar Chavez (at Church), 282-4712

When: Thu., Jan. 20, 6-7 p.m.

Cost: Free

The rundown: In Reading Between the Wines (University of California Press, $24.95), Terry Theise argues that wine offers a sort of Skype video conference with the transcendent. From the publisher: "Theise describes how wine can be a portal to aesthetic, emotional, even mystical experience -- and he frankly asserts that these experiences are most likely to be inspired by wines from artisan producers." Naturally, point-score wines made for a global market are the devil's work ― but you knew that.
