The rundown: Once a month at the Alembic, the normal cocktail menu disappears, replaced with copies of The Savoy Cocktail Book, a 750-recipe tome from the 1930s. Written by Harry Craddock, an American bartender who escaped to Europe to continue his craft during Prohibition, the book is a classic reference for modern bartenders. The Alembic's Savoy night started back in 2007, when local bartender Erik Ellestad began the task of making every one of Craddock's recipes in the order they appear in the book. Don't worry: If you feel overwhelmed by the wealth of choices, Ellestad can help you navigate. SFoodie's favorites include the Corpse Reviver #2 (lemon juice, Lillet, Cointreau, gin, and absinthe) and the Manhattan-meets-whiskey-sour Los Angeles (bourbon, egg white, sweet vermouth, and sugar).
