Cost: Free for cookie entrants/ $5 for just-eaters
The rundown: Past food contests at Omnivore have ranged from the arty to the esoteric, but for its first competition of 2011, owner Celia Sack is sticking with the basics. It's a cookie contest, and SFoodie couldn't be more excited. Each entrant bakes several dozen of their chosen variety, for official judging and unofficial nibbling, and the winner takes home half the cash from the door. Though there may be a range of razzle-dazzle entries (e.g., brandied loganberry with a balsamic-basil drizzle), we're more interested in well-crafted versions of cookie classics. Oatmeal paired with raisins? Delightful!
