Off the Grid: 5M Launching at Minna and Fifth St.
Organizer Matt Cohen got the green light yesterday from the city's street gods, aka the Interdepartmental Staff Committee on Traffic and Transportation (ISCOTT), to roll out yet another weekly food-truck pod. Off the Grid: 5M will operate Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., near Fifth and Mission, in the Intersection 5M project overseen by Forest City Development. Intersection 5M is unfolding in a portion of the San Francisco Chronicle building. ![]()
Google Maps The newest Off the Grid is part of the Intersection 5M project on the ground floor of the Chronicle building. Food trucks will park in the tunnel.
Cohen says Forest City invited Off the Grid to do food there, in the tunnel on Minna. "The fact that there's shelter made it perfect for us," Cohen tells SFoodie. Opening vendors include Hapa SF, Kung Fu Tacos, Southern Sandwich Co., Curry Up Now, and Seoul on Wheels.
Given the proximity to the editorial offices of the San Francisco Chronicle, should readers of the city's biggest daily expect to see stories about the local street-food scene? Unclear.
