To Market, to Market (Actually, Three Markets)

At Saturday's late-night Underground Market, the munchies *will* be quelled.

​Stuff a napkin in one fist and a wad of bills in the other. This Saturday, three foodie markets pepper the city with delectable treats to taste and, of course, buy.

• First off, at the foodie cathedral known as the Ferry Building, 45 of the 71 winners of the Good Food Awards will be on display to showcase their award-winning fares from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. These are the best and brightest products from around the country as judged by a panel in a variety of categories: beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, pickles, and preserves. The event is free and open to the public. In other words, it's going to be apeshit crazy by the brunching hour, so get there early. You've been warned.

New Taste Marketplace

​• Next, midway up Potrero Hill, the New Taste Marketplace takes over St. Gregory's Church at 500 De Haro from noon to 5 p.m. (sliding scale $10 entry fee benefits the Food Pantry and St Gregory's). Expect a mix of shelf-stable goods and immediate noshables. Look for Cincinnati-style chili spaghetti, secret family recipe satays, exotic Indian spreads, char siu belly tacos, and bacon crack. At last, bacon in smokable rock form.

• Last but most certainly not least, the SF Underground Market is back and better than ever. Now in the expansive art-performance-club space Public Works in the Mission, the market starts out at 11 a.m. with mainly take-awayables until 4 p.m., then kicks into gear after 6 with more ready-to-nom goods. (Here's the full list of vendors; free registration required for entry with $5 cover for day market and $10 cover for night market.) The market's taking full advantage of the venue's clublike space by extending hours to 2 a.m. with more food, more drinks, and more beats. So get out there and shake it, if it isn't already too full of pork product.
