Baia to Open in Old Town Oakland, Shabu Pub Replaces Mazu
![]() |
Inside Scoop, following an Oakland Trib tip, reports that Edward Higgins ― the Four Seasons Palo Alto chef whose resume is illustrated with a few glittery NYT stars ― is opening Baia (465 Ninth St., Oakland) sometime in the fall. The pitch: 25-seat restaurant featuring "modern Italian" food, notably Sicilian-inspired seafood.
Eater SF gets first dibs on reporting that Mazu in the Inner Richmond will be replaced by Shabu Pub (3809 Geary, 668-9688, www.shabupub.com). No word yet on opening date. The pitch: shabu shabu.
