A16 Changes Chefs, Puerto Alegre Colonizes Bombay Ice Creamery

Categories: Buzz Machine
The past 36 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco restaurant scene.

Inside Scoop broke word that Liza Shaw is leaving A16, where she's been exec chef (and has worked since the beginning). Replacing her will be her chef de cuisine, David Taylor. In other chef news, Tablehopper reports that Ben Cohn has left Spruce after five months as executive chef.

Tablehopper also scores intel on Radish (3465 19th St., at Lexington, 834-5441, radishsf.com), which owner Emily Summers says will open mid-February. The pitch: New American fare at breakfast and lunch, small plates at dinnertime.

Via Tablehopper comes news of the opening of Quattro Stagioni (318 Kearny, at Belden Lane, 956-4056), from the owners of Cafe Tiramisu and Brindisi. The pitch: Italian-style pizza. At the end of 2010, SFoodie signed a blood promise to our editor that we would stop writing about the foodstuff heretofore referred as p****, so we can't say more.

The Feast spots a sign announcing that Puerto Alegre is taking over the former Bombay Ice Creamery space next door (552 Valencia). They will be measuring the new square footage in margarita pitchers, we hear.

Inside Scoop is first to post that Nombe closing for the first two weeks in January. The downtime allows the owners to do a little renovation and let incoming chef Vincent Schofield travel around Japan, eating and cooking. Projected reopening date: Jan. 14. Let's hope the man has recovered from his jet lag by then.

Lastly, two more bits from Tablehopper:
• Hayes & Kebab has finally reopened at 580 Hayes. The pitch: kebabs and pan-Mediterranean food. Please do not confuse the restaurant with Kebabs of Hayes Valley, which opened in its old location. Come up with a mnemonic or something.
• LOL Cafe (6050 Geary, 592-8918) has opened in the Outer Richmond. The pitch: cafe with vegetarian sandwiches. Let loose the acronyms!
