Three Events to Keep You Drunk for New Year's Weekend
New Year's Day is all about fresh starts and optimism, but don't make the mistake of believing you can say goodbye to a whole year with one night of drinking. Our extensive studies have shown that a full 24-hour period of carefully paced cocktails is required for that. With that in mind, here's SFoodie's suggestion for a weekend-long resolution-trashing fling before you have to get serious on Monday.![]()
Arguably the best decade for serious drinking and excess was the '70s, the setting for the Bon Vivants' S.O.S. ― Standing on Stardust party at the Burritt Room. The $85 ticket gets you four cocktails, snacks, and disco dancing to DJ Bus Station John's groovin' soundtrack. If that doesn't put you over the top, then go-go dancers and a slab of luge ice in the form of a unicorn dispensing boozy, cosmic love surely will. Champagne at midnight included.
Since S.F. isn't New Orleans or Las Vegas, you're going to have to take a little break before rolling over to the BBQ brunch at Absinthe Saturday morning. Belly up to the bar for a Freddy Mercury (prosecco, Broker's gin, pan-roasted star anise, cardamom, ginger, lemon) if you're still hanging strong, or a Death in the Afternoon (absinthe and Champagne) if you're not.
End the first night of the year with a last hurrah for your old resolutions. Whiskey Under the Bridge is 15 Romolo's resolutions-breaker brunch that lasts all night. The $7 drink specials feature Death's Door gin and vodka, along with Romolo's usual brand of tasty, offbeat brunch grub, including corned beef-tongue hash, challah French toast, duck egg congee, and more.![]()
