Ike Shehadeh wants to return to 16th and Sanchez, but he needs help.
Nobody ever said it was easy being a sandwich impresario. For Ike's Place to return to 16th Street in the Castro ― half a block from the storefront the sandwich shop was forced to abandon back in September ― owner Ike Shehadeh will have to convince the Planning Department to grant him a permit. Today, Shehadeh posted a plea for community support on Facebook:
I need your help, please. I'm still looking for 2 more neighbors(16th St. or Sanchez St. address), 2 Upper Market/Castro Business Owners/Managers, and 2 non-profits, to which Ike's has donated to, to show up and speak on Ike's behalf this Thursday, Dec 16th at 2pm. City Hall Room 400. Email me ike@ilikeiksplace.com or message me here. Please let me know. Thank you so very much.
But will Ike's former neighbors, the ones who sued Ike's landlord to force eviction, show up to rain on any love parade Shehadeh manages to muster? Something tells us the Ike's drama is far from over.
