What's Up Daddy-O?, Video Cafe Dies, Circa Recruits New Chef

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco restaurant scene.

Live SoMa updates the public on the status of Daddy O's Cafe (294 Ninth St., at Folsom, 558-9988). The pitch: homey Southern food. The place opened in early November for about 10 days, then closed again, ostensibly to fix power problems.

Richmond SF reports on the demise of a Richmond District icon: Video Cafe, aka Big Heart Cafe, at Geary and 21st. Apparently declining business and the cost of ADA compliance brought the diner down.

Inside Scoop reports that Circa in the Marina, whose interim chef just moved over to the new Citizen Cake, has hired Daniel Sudar, who worked at Betelnut and Red Lantern before taking a few months off.

Two prospective restaurant spottings from Grub Street: Jay B. spotted a sign for D&R Designs, a combination jewelry store and wine bar at 2323 Market. The second permit notice he found was for a place called Kasumi (2608 Ocean) in Lakeside.

A belated item from Inside Scoop's print column: An Italian coffee chain called Caffe Pascucci will open its first American location at 170 King, with casual fare from former Fish & Farm chef Chad Newton.

And if you didn't catch it, SFoodie caught wind of Straw (203 Octavia), a Hayes Valley restaurant with a mystery opening date and a carnival theme.
