Lou's Cafe Puts the Diner Breakfast Between Bread
Lou's Café is an eight-month-old sandwich spot in the Richmond, serving toasted-to-order gourmet sandwiches and salads priced under $7. We're partial to the LLB Special on Dutch crunch, but we think the breakfast sandwich is the most rave-worthy item here.
Luis Chong Lou's breakfast sandwich puts the hash browns between ciabatta halves.
It's a kitchen-sink breakfast: ham, bacon, or both, scrambled eggs, American cheese, and hash browns, all on ciabatta. It's available all day (or until they run out of ciabatta) and fit for a world-champion appetite, or those willing to share. The $4.49 price makes it a no-brainer, besides being nirvana in your mouth.
By the way, regular customers should request a stamped club card (the 10th sandwich is free). Another tip not listed on the menu: Ask for a combo, i.e. a choice of two items, half a sandwich, half a salad, or a cup of soup for $6.99.
Lou's Café: 5017 Geary (at 14th Ave.), 379-4429; open Mon.-Fri. 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Sat. 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; closed Sun.
