Joan Nathan Talks About Jewish Cooking in France
Jewish cooking expert and New York Times contributor Joan Nathan is rightly called "the queen of Jewish cooking" -- she has authored 10 books on the subject and has a PBS series. For her newest project, Nathan decided to investigate what Jewish cooking means... in France. The resulting book, Quiches, Kugels and Couscous: My Search for Jewish Cooking in France, has a trove of 200 recipes.
Next Tuesday, Nathan will hold court at a Hayes Street Grill luncheon, which is sponsored by the JCC. She will talk about her journeys into kitchens in Paris, Alsace, and the Loire Valley, where she explored the ways that Sephardic Jewish immigrants, mainly from North Africa, have introduced new flavors into French cuisine.
