's Jessica Battilana posted a useful directory of foodie-approved Thanksgiving pies
, including Mission Beach's huckleberry, Mission Pie's walnut, and Tartine's cranberry frangipane (and for those who fear the crust, a couple sources for bake-your-own dough). This weekend, SFoodie snapped a pic of another pie maker's poster. Black Jet Baking Co.
's Gillian Shaw learned her crust craft baking pies at Liberty Cafe. Now she sells cookies and pop tarts ― handheld pies with feathery butter crusts ― at Ritual, Matching Half, Farm:Table, and a few other local cafes. For Thanksgiving, she's selling five varieties of pies (all $20), flavors listed above, as well as smaller pies in a jar
($5) and her pop tarts in Thanksgiving flavors ($3). Shaw uses a half-butter, half-shortening crust (SFoodie approves), and she happily makes her pecan pie with corn syrup.
Shaw's a regular instructor at the Workshop
and so on the day before the holiday, she'll be taking over the DIY
shop in NOPA and turning it into a pop-up shop where customers can pick
up the pies they've pre-ordered (you're going to pre-order, right?) or
possibly score a dessert on the spot. All orders should be in
