Top Chef: Just Desserts, Week 7: Edge-Of-Your-Seat Excitement Minus the Balls
Everybody knows the Giants aced Game 1 of the World Series, but in last night's other competition news, Dessert Wars were on. Top Chef: Just Desserts rolled out a collection of challenge favorites, beginning with the Pastry Relay Race for the Quickfire Challenge. To quote Zac, "I think that the relay is certainly the most anticipated Quickfire Challenge, I mean, that's edge-of-your-seat excitement." Contestants drew cookies for the relay teams and by the luck of the draw, our favorites, Team Go Diva! (Zac, Yigit, and Heather H.) were all on the same side.

The pastry relay: Form twelve perfect tart shells, pipe eight perfect buttercream roses, and six egg whites whipped to peaks stiff enough to turn the bowl upside down and hold it over your head for 10 seconds and have nothing fall out. For the final leg the team had to stretch strudel dough over the entire length of a table and then roll. Sorry sports fans, but this made the World Series look like a game for wussies.
Team Go Diva! made us as proud as the Giants did. They achieved delicacy with their strudel dough and gently yanked that baby like no other.
Next, the Elimination Challenge was kicked up to the Top Chef World Series level: Dessert Wars, the sweets equivalent of Restaurant Wars. The teams stayed the same and had to create a dessert wonderland, each team member making two desserts and one bready item.
Morgan went nuts with the pressure. He lost two bags of lemons and certainly did not make lemonade out of the situation. He slammed chocolate pans and generally went nuts over having to form 92 pretzels.
Go Diva! was also a bit frazzled. Heather H. not only asked Zac to shut up twice, she also finished it up with a "deal with it." Oh no, she di'int.
Of course, Yigit killed at front of the house while Danielle didn't shine at all in the same position. But alas, Team Go Diva! had a display case that wasn't filled and pastry crust that was too thick. The other team, whose bakery was called Whisk Me Away, was the winner and Go Diva!, the unstoppable group, was sent to the Judges' Table. It was Heather H. who was sent packing for her thick crust and honestly, if we had to lose a Go Diva! Member, we were glad it was her. Although it was nearly unbearable to see our Yigit and Zac cry when they had to say goodbye.
One thing is for sure: Game on, Pastry Cheftestants! Team Go Diva! to the end. San Francisco wants Yigit to make like the Giants and take it home.
