Goody Goodie and Cento Owners to Open StarStream

​Remi Hayashi, owner of Goody Goodie, and John Quintos, owner of Cento, Special Xtra, and Vega, are opening a new cafe on Harrison Street and 14th. Named StarStream ― after the 1960s-era Lambretta scooter ― the cafe will serve breakfast, lunch, and Blue Bottle coffee Mondays through Fridays. "We're going for the feel of a Roman espresso bar," says Hayashi, "with people stading around drinking espresso."


Hayashi, an Emily Luchetti protégé, will be doing all her baking out of the new kitchen, allowing her to expand beyond the cookies and small treats she sells from her window on Folsom (which will remain open, by the way). She plans to bake breakfast pastries, breads, and sandwich rolls, as well as more elaborate cakes and tarts. The space came with a pizza oven, so Hayashi will also be doing individual Roman-style pizzas at lunch, which she first began baking at Splendido. "By no means are we throwing our hat into the pizza ring," she says. The partners are working on beer and wine license, and eventually hope to do dessert pairings not just with wine but with tea and coffee as well.

With most of the inspections out of the way, the soft opening is scheduled for October 21. Coffee and pastries should start then, and Hayashi hopes to roll out the full menu by mid-November.
