Rec and Park Comments On Blue Bottle's Decision to Pull Out of Dolores Park
More on the aftermath of Blue Bottle's decision to scrap its plans to sell in Dolores Park. Elton Pon, spokesman for the city's Recreation and Park Department, e-mailed SFoodie a two-sentence statement:

Our goals remain to meet the public's desire for more amenities in their parks and to develop sources of revenue to help keep our parks clean, safe and fun in this era of profound budget cuts. It's unfortunate that a few loud voices chased away a reputable coffee vendor in Dolores Park, but we will continue to work with park users and neighborhoods to pursue these important goals.
Meanwhile Caleb Zigas, director of La Cocina ― which also secured a contract for a cart, to be operated by incubator client El Huarache Loco ― said he'd only learned about the decision by Blue Bottle's James Freeman from SFoodie's Tuesday post. Zigas said he's not had conversations with Rec and Park about scrapping La Cocina's cart. "I respect and admire James a lot and I am sorry that it came to this," Zigas added.
