Say cheesy: The Valencia Street Arizmendi crew poses with Supes David Campos and Bevan Dufty.
Supervisors Bevan Dufty and David Campos presented a lunchtime proclamation from Mayor Newsom's office naming today Arizmendi Day across the city. The brand-new Valencia Street bakery marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting, music, and decorations; about 15 guests were on hand to watch, while an Arizmendi crew of 13 co-owners and trainers stood in front for the group photo.

Slice of the day: pasillas, tomatoes, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Rumors of freebies and samples had swirled, but between noon and 12:30, it was a cash-only affair. Most folks ordered and waited (and waited) for a slice of the pizza of the day, a mashup of pasilla peppers, cilantro, tomato, feta, and garlic oil, priced at $2.50. Arizmendi's vegetarian pizza is light enough that one slice will probably tide you over for about 90 minutes. Bigger appetites might feel comfortably full only after two slices, ahem.
