Top Chef: Just Desserts, Week 3: It Was Glee All Over Again, Minus the Britney Crazy
Was the Britney Spears Glee episode this week not sweet enough for you? Top Chef: Just Desserts tried to carry out the same overhyped (school) spirit on last night's episode. Unfortunately, both Glee and Top Chef were misses compared to last week's craziness. Uh, hello, Charice's voice and Seth's freak-out. FTW!
1weddingsource.com It's Sylvia, bitch!
Last night's Quickfire Challenge featured what they like to call the most important cake of your life: The Wedding Cake. Naturally, Sylvia Weinstock was the judge. She made it quite clear she wanted the cakes to be beautiful and the flavors to sing.
Now we're getting to the "Have you been snorting buttercream?" moment. The contestants had only an hour and a half to make a wedding cake. Top Chef provided the sheet cake and the contestants had to fill, frost, and decorate. It doesn't sound that hard but phrases like "hot mess cake" and "structurally sound" were uttered, and all of the cakes were fairly hideous. Let's just say that we would be Bridezilla if any of these were our cakes.
This is Just Desserts, so obviously there had to be tears, although ― shockingly ― this week they weren't coming from Seth's ducts: It was Malika and her cake that were falling apart. Sylvia offered words of wisdom: "It's not death. It's only a cake." How Eddie Izzard of her.
Erika's Mocha Explosion with Kahlua buttercream was the winner. She and her cake seem to be the most stable; she took the top prize last week, too.
For the Elimination Challenge, we got our Glee night extended with a pastry version of New Directions versus the Cheerios. The contestants were split in two teams, Pep Squad and Glee Club, and asked to make bake sale items to support their matching teams.
The Pep Squad took it by selling 10 more dollars' worth of baked goods. Although, have no fear, both of the teams from St. Monica High School were sent to top destinations: cheer camp on the one hand, glee competiton in N.Y.C. on the other. But the losing Top Chef team was sent to the Judges' Table.
Last night's episode really helped to highlight the hotness of Morgan. He's, like, Superman good looking; he made those cheerleaders cream their cupcakes. But while Morgan may have scored with the girls, it was the baker, Eric, who won the bake sale challenge with his peanut butter Krispy bar. Perhaps it was good that Peanut Butter Whore (i.e. Heather, Glee team's cookie maker) hoarded most of it. Eric was forced to upgrade with Nutella, aka the best thing on Earth.
The Top Chef Glee team had all of our favorite and most hated contestants ― definitely the cast's weirdos, as all good glee clubs should have. Seth referred to what they were doing as throwing buses at each other; it was definitely more than simply throwing each other under the bus. Heather with her bandaged forehead and her uninspired peanut butter cookie was sent home.
At this point, we're cheering for next week to be even sweeter. We want Seth to bring back the crazy, a la Britney. After all, it's Top Chef, bitch!
