Sundance Coffee on 24th Street Drips No More; Cafe Bello Taking Over
Notice something different on 24th Street, next to Humphry Slocombe? Sundance Coffee at 3000 24th St. closed up a week ago ― for good ― to be replaced by another café, the second location of Glen Park's Café Bello. ![]()
Kevin Y./Yelp The cafe closed precipitously on Aug. 31, without wearning to employees.
Soon-to-be ex-Sundance manager Ian Kersey tells SFoodie that Sundance owner Michael Ware closed the place without any notice to employees. Early in August, Kersey had heard a rumor that the café was closing. He asked owner Michael Ware, who denied the rumor. Then, weeks later, Ware closed the place down precipitously, putting four employees out of work without warning. Ware declined to tell SFoodie why the 24th Street shop closed. The Sundance café in Dogpatch is still open; Ware said it's in no danger of closing.
Kersey managed both Sundance shops; today is his last day with the company ― he starts in two weeks as manager for Humphry Slocombe.
As for Café Bello on 24th, owner Joshua Li tells SFoodie the place will be similar to the Glen Park café: beans roasted in house, pastries and snacks. Projected opening: early October.
