Slow Jams Arrives at Bi-Rite Today
A business cultivated in less than a year thanks to the SF Underground Market, various street-food parties, and most recently, the incubator kitchen at La Cocina, Slow Jams is celebrating its first retail customer today. Bi-Rite Market is now stocked with Slow Jams' local and organic vanilla peach conserve, "Brown Suga" pear butter, and spiced pluot conserve, all $9.99, with more flavors to come seasonally.![]()

We like Slow Jams' products about as much as we admire the broader pursuits of founder Shakirah Simley. Read Grist's interview with Simley to learn how Slow Jams fits into a life dedicated to food justice.
A newly appointed Fulbright/Casten Family Foundation Fellow, Simley will be studying next year at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra, Italy, the home of Slow Food International.
"I'll be analyzing the Slow Food model in its home country to see if it can present a model for achieving food equity across socioeconomic lines," Simley tells us.
