Off the Grid Coming to McCoppin Stub in the Mission; Could Become Permanent Daily Food Pod
Organizer Matt Cohen announced a new Off the Grid street-food location today, this one at the edge of the Mission. Off the Grid McCoppin Hub soft-launches Saturday, Sept. 25, in the cul-de-sac near the corner of McCoppin and Valencia, hemmed in by the Central Freeway ramp.

Unlike other OTGs, McCoppin will operate all day: a total of 12 trucks, organized into two six-truck shifts, separated into morning and afternoon services. First shift runs 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the second from 5:30 p.m.to 10 p.m. On Sept. 25, the first shift features Cupkates, El Norteno, Liba, and Le Truc. For the second, Senor Sisig, Curry Up Now, 51st State, and El Tonayense, plus two new vendors, possibly, working now to get their paperwork lined up. Check for updates on OTG's Facebook page.
McCoppin Hub is a pilot project, says Cohen, slated for two months. After that's up, the city's Interdepartmental Staff Committee on Traffic and Transportation (ISCOTT) will review OTG, and decide on whether the food pod should be a permanent daily fixture in the Stub, long plagued with drug dealing and other shadiness. The city has expressed an interest in greening the stub with a park. Cohen tells SFoodie he's open to working out a use for the area that would include a permanent food pod with a leafy element.
OTG McCoppin Hub effectively replaces Cohen's plans for a similar event at Mission Playground, with Rec and Park greenlighted back in July. Cohen says the city is due to start work on rehabbing Mission Playground in three or four months.
