Mr. Pollo, Taqueria San Jose Spruce Up a Little
Don't look now, but two Mission district stalwarts have gone upscale. Well, kind of.![]()
Alex Hochman The new Mr. Pollo: A gallon didn't quite do it.
Mr. Pollo has eschewed it's Big Bird-yellow exterior for a very sexy grayish brown that screams, We're not just pollo anymore! Too bad they ran out of paint mid-job, leaving the washed-out front door a reminder of the pre-Manny Torres Gimenez days. The old yellow Mr. Pollo sign still proudly hangs above.
Across the street at Taqueria San Jose, you'll now be able to get your blaring ranchera music on while watching Primera Division soccer in high-tech style. They've added two new flat-screen TVs and an Internet jukebox. A freshly painted bright orange interior will make any Syracuse, Netherlands, or Sterling Witt fan feel at home (though we're doubtful that will actually happen). Menus and prices at both restaurants remain unchanged. What's next, a wood-fired oven for King's Bakery? ![]()
Alex Hochman Taqueria San Jose's gone orange, possibly to mask the carrot-juice stains.
