Pumpkin Season Always Makes Us Crave the Kaddo at Helmand Palace
Last Wednesday marked the official first day of fall, start of the season millions of Americans celebrate by ordering up venti pumpkin spice lattes at SBUX. It's become as traditional as the leaves changing color.![]()
Liz T./Yelp The Afghan dish is damn near as frothy as a pumpkin spice latte, too.
We know an exciting alternative to the paper cup: the Afghan dish called kaddo at Helmand Palace. Thankfully, it's one treat you can order all year long, baby pumpkin pan-fried, then baked and sweetened, topped with cool garlic yogurt and ground beef sauce. It's a playground of texture, temperature, and taste.
Here's what the Weekly said about kaddo in 2001: "Sometimes, food resonates in a way that changes your life forever. Kaddo did this. We are powerless before it." This still holds true. Especially now, when we're hankering for pumpkin spice and everything nice.
