Ex-Fifth Floor Chef Jennie Lorenzo to Appear Friday at Off the Grid Fort Mason
UPDATE: Find out what Lorenzo plans to cook for Friday's pop-up.
Fifth Floor Jennie Lorenzo is expected Friday night at Off the Grid, making a guest appearance at Le Truc.
Grub Street was among local food sites reporting Jennie Lorenzo's hasty departure from Fifth Floor last week. "Her last meal there will be Saturday night, September 4, and she tells Grub Street that this will be the last chance for diners to sample her food for the rest of the year," Jay Barmann wrote. That may not be entirely true.
Looks like Lorenzo will be doing a pop-up at this Friday's Off the Grid at Fort Mason Center, says Hugh Schick of Le Truc, the bustaurant that made its public debut at Eat Real last month. Schick says plans are still tentative, but Lorenzo will probably do up to do dishes inspired by her time working in Tokyo, including, perhaps, a sashimi dish. Schick read about Lorenzo's departure from Fifth floor, and reached out to see if the Manila-born chef would be willing to hop on board the bustaurant Friday, which Schick says is Off the Grid's Asian-food theme night.
Le Truc sells food through a window ― taco-truck-style ― as well as having on-bus seatings for up to 12 at a time. Schick says Lorenzo might sell one hand-held dish through the window, and serve a more fork-friendly dish to diners on the bus, most likely in two seatings. Schick is asking anyone interested in reserving a place on the bus to call 388-2917.
