The digs: Intimate wine bar adjoining Eos (the restaurant) is an attractive local hangout in blond wood and candlelight with big picture windows looking out on Cole Valley's passing parade. A well-heeled clientele relax at scattered tables and an attractive silver-topped bar, swirling and sipping after a long, hard day of lawyering. The racks and shelves of bottles and glassware reflect the bar's vino-centric outlook and aesthetic.
The verdict: Eos's extensive, impressive, carefully crafted wine list is the basis for an ever-changing selection of whites, reds, and sparklers offered during happy hour for a most reasonable $5 per glass, $10 per half bottle and $20 per bottle. If the day's five-option selection doesn't bewitch you, glasses of chilled sake or house-made seasonal sangria are available at $5 per glass, as is one of the establishment's wine-based house cocktails. When you get hungry, there are raw oysters for $6 per half dozen and elegant snackage like potato cakes with pineapple chutney, ahi and salmon sushi, and Piave Vecchio Italian cow's milk formaggio for $5 apiece. This is a classy place to relax to the sound of clinking glassware and murmured conversation.
