The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the
San Francisco restaurant scene.
Grub Street's Jay B. reports that Provence restaurant closed on Saturday, to be replaced by a restaurant named Beast & the Hare (1001 Guerrero, at 22nd St.), part of an ampersand-loaded naming meme sweeping the West Coast (Sons & Daughters, Hog & Rocks, Seattle's Staple & Fancy and Emmer & Rye). The pitch: reasonably priced New American fare, including oysters (new owner Ian Marks cooked at Hog Island...) & house-made charcuterie (...& worked for a spell at Fatted Calf). Marks has secured the liquor permit; no word on how long it will take to open.
Paolo L. at Inside Scoop shares some sad news (well, SFoodie is sad, at least, having some very good memories of drinks and dinner there): CAV Wine Bar, which had recently switched to a retail operation, has shut everything down.
Mission Loc@l snapped a photo of the opening party at Blue Fig (990 Valencia), which opened on Saturday. (via Eater.)
Grub Street also trolls the liquor license applications and learns that a place named Four Seasons Cafe and Restaurant (660 Eddy) is about to open.
