Alexander's Steakhouse Invades SOMA, Carnelian by the Bay Docks at Ferry Plaza

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco restaurant scene.

Paolo L. at Inside Scoop reports that Alexander's Steakhouse (448 Brannan, 495-1111, www.alexanderssteakhouse.com) will open in the old Bacar space on Sept. 13. The pitch: steakhouse with Japanese-inflected menu, traditional American cuts of steak, and Wagyu beef from both Australia and the United States.

Also from Scoop, the old World Trade Club behind the Ferry Building is about to become Carnelian by the Bay. Keep in mind: It will not be run by the same corporation that managed the Carnelian Room but by a bunch of former Carnelian Room staffers (now if that doesn't hint at a back story...). The pitch: A lounge with large banquet rooms, small plates and drinks on the main floor, a stellar view, and, per Paolo L., "lots of televisions" if you're bored with the sight of all that water.

Jay B. at Grub Street reports that Deanie ~~Fox~~ Hickox, the former Ubuntu pastry chef and former wife of former Ubuntu chef Jeremy Fox, is moving from Manresa to work under Bill Corbett at Coi. In her place, Manresa has hired Belinda Leong, whose resume includes the Copenhagen restaurant-of-the-moment Noma.

And one last Scoop: Chris Daly, whose days as S.F. Supervisor will be over come January, may take over the Buck Tavern on Market and Gough. That may not be far enough away from City Hall for some of his detractors.
