What to Drink at This Weekend's Eat Real Festival

Eat Real Festival
Beer is clearly the star of the three-day Oakland festival.
SFoodie has already passed along tips for navigating this weekend's Eat Real Festival (which kicks off this afternoon across the Bay in Jack London Square), but don't think we'd forget to break down some of the drinking deets.

The beverage hero of the festival is clearly beer: More than 30 local breweries are bringing their sudsy might to the Oakland waterfront. The group, assembled by beer-curator Dave McLean of Magnolia Brewing, will offer glasses of any of the brews for $6 in the Beer Shed. Look for local favorites like Drake's, Speakeasy, Magnolia, and Trumer.

If you're not a fan of malted grain, the Wine Barn will be popping open bottles from 12 different local urban and Mendocino wineries for $6 a glass. And when you're done with alcohol for the day, tea, juices, and kombucha can be had at $3 glass from the Bev Shack. And there'll be free water at the hydration stations.

Whichever way you decide to refresh yourself, a $20 drink package will get you either an Eat Real branded Mason jar or a shatterproof Govino wine glass, and six drink tickets, good for three glasses of wine or beer, or six non-alcoholic drinks.

One of the events we're most looking forward to is the free Bitters Workshop on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m. in the Food Skills area. Greg Lindgren from Rye will discuss the role bitters play in cocktails and the assortment of botanicals used in making bitters. You'll get the chance to mix and make your very own batch of bitters to take home, too.
