Produce to the People
Tonight's El Rio event benefits Produce to the People, which harvests and distributes backyard produce.
The weather's turned, but you can still chill out with some Straus ice cream and other edibles tonight at El Rio's Ice Cream to the People! It's a benefit party for Produce to the People, the San Francisco nonprofit that collects and distributes excess backyard produce and offers it to people in need.

Vegan ice cream from Maggie Mudd will be available, as well as samples of Equal Exchange chocolate, locally harvested fruit, and herb syrups. Silent auction items include private workshops on home brewing with master brewer Jim Boyd, fermenting with Finn Cunningham, butter- and jam-making with Lauren Anderson, and locally made art. Or throw down for a raffle that could win you goodies from Cowgirl Creamery, the Front Porch, Crushpad, Magnolia Pub, Spork, and Mission Pie.

Ice Cream to the People!
When: Thurs., Aug. 26, 5-9 p.m.
Where: El Rio, 3158 Mission (at Precita), 282-3325
Cost: Suggested donation of $10-$30; no one turned away due to lack of funds
