SF Food Wars wants you to share the burn. The cooking competition with a hungry following has put out the call for competitors at its next throwdown, The Great Salsa ChampionChip, slated for Sunday, Sept. 12, at Ferry Plaza. The CUESA-cosponsored event benefits both CUESA's farmer scholarship fund and the S.F. Food Bank.

The salsa slam marks an expansion for Food Wars. Organizer Jeannie Choe says this time, 300 tickets will go on sale, up from the usual 200-250. At $16, it's a bit pricier, too ($16, instead of $10-$15), since it's a benefit for two groups. Tickets go on sale next Monday.

If you get the nod to be one of the 20 competitors, you'll get $15 worth of produce from the Ferry Plaza farmers' market. Casa Sanchez is donating the chips. To be considered, e-mail heyyou@sffoodwars.com with the following: your name, the name of your salsa, a description of it, your phone number, and your e-mail. Oh, and buena suerte.
