Really Eating Real, Five Pop Reviews: This Week in Bloggery

This is totally us, tomorrow and Sunday.

1. The story that dominated the past few days of SFoodie coverage was the Eat Real Festival, which takes place in Oakland tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday. We wrote about the festival's scavenger hut, how to survive, what to drink, the pickle competition, and the homebrew competition. Because you didn't have enough street food last weekend, and because you really wanted to know how to roast your own coffee beans at home, and because you want to see John Birdsall and a score of other local writers talk about street food (in just a couple hours!), you're going, right?

2. SFoodie drinks columnist Lou "at Large" Bustamante writes about a Clock Bar bartender who was fired for comping other restaurant-industry members who came in for drinks. The firing has reverberated around the city, and has many bartenders wondering how much they should be giving away.

3. New restaurants we've visited this week: El Rancho Grande in the Western Addition, Saiwaii Ramen in the Inner Sunset, Tony's Coal-Fired Pizza and Slice House in North Beach, Golden West downtown, and Zero Zero in SOMA.

4. Brian Yaeger, our beer columnist, interviewed ThirstyBear owner Brenden Dobel about his new Locavore Ale, made with 100% California ingredients.

5. And in honor of the first hot day of the year, I posted a list of 10 cold things besides ice cream to eat. If we're lucky, I'll have reason to consult it again before winter.
