Eat Real Festival Releases Schedule and Vendor Lineup

Eat Real Festival, the upcoming three-day celebration of street food, urban homesteading, and all foods local, just released its schedule and vendor lineup today. The event, which takes place August 27-29 in Jack London Square, hugs the contours of the food-world zeitgeist like an American Apparel bodysuit.

There will be two music stages ― well, one alternates between DJs and noodle-pulling contests ― and two more stages devoted to urban homesteading demonstrations. The demos cover such topics as seed saving, milking goats and making ice cream with the milk, and roasting your own coffee (with Blue Bottle's James Freeman, who started out as a geeked-out home roaster). Tamales, jam, kombucha, bacon ... slather on enough sunblock to sit through both days of classes and you should be fully prepared to pack up your chickens and go off the grid.

In addition, as we reported earlier, Eat Real Festival's street-food vendor lineup is twice as big as last year's. On hand are most of the established trucks and carts ― could they hold a street-food festival without the Creme Brulee Guy? ― as well as many vendors SFoodie has never heard of, such as Get Jerked!, Soleil's African Kitchen, and Where's Buta.

According to festival organizer Susan Coss, the list of breweries and wineries participating in the Beer [and Wine] Shed will be complete by the end of the week. And the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association, which normally operates the Jack London Square farmers' market on Sundays, is organizing an indoor farmers' market to take place both Saturday and Sunday.

At the risk of sounding like a Magic Bullet infomercial, SFoodie will have more festival news ― a lit festival, culinary collaborations, a fundraising dinner, not to mention the bike tour ― to report by week's end.

CORRECTION: SFoodie's very own Tamara Palmer just reminded us that she wrote about Soleil's African Kitchen last year. As we have many times before, we bow to her.
